2018.
Thank
you to all the club members who have given up
their time during this busy time of the year to
help cover events for the club and the City of
Oviedo. We've already covered a number of
events in December including Brass Band
Concerts, the Oviedo Tree Lighting, Santa
Portraits and Snow Mountain. At these
events, in addition to taking photos, we get to
meet members of the community and talk to them.
They are so appreciative of what we do and
being able to share our photos with their
friends and families. I've met so many
interesting people and learned a few things
about photography in all kinds of conditions.
I've also learned by talking to the
people I've photographed about everything from
German dancing, to why an organist wears special
shoes, to the history of Oviedo and many other
things.
There
are still events to photograph and things to
learn this year so please come out and join
us.

Dinner
& Star Photography Field Trip - December
18
We will be going to the Black Hammock Fish
Camp for dinner then head
to a nearby member's home with a large paved
area for us to set up on and shoot the
stars. There will be a new moon that
night.
Be sure to
bring your camera, wide angle or fisheye lens,
tripod, and a shutter release if you have one.
If you don't you can use the timer on your
camera. Also a flashlight, a light colored
blanket or towel to put your equipment on to
find it easily in the dark, and a lawn chair are
recommended. There will be at least one
extra tripod if you need to borrow one. We
may also play around with light painting
portraits if there's time.
A
few tips for shooting stars...
-Use
manual focus
-Set
white balance to daylight or between 2800-5000
(adjust accordingly)
-Good manual starting
point
ISO
1600-2500
f2.8-3.5 (lowest
setting for your lens)
15-25 second
exposure
-To
brighten the sky, raise the
ISO
You
may also want to Google 'night photography tips'
for your particular camera to find manual
settings as a starting
point.
